This Studio Policy is an operational document of One Button Studio. It is not a policy of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and has not been issued or approved by the University. Where applicable law or a binding KNUST requirement says something different, that law or requirement applies.

This policy sets the standards for everyone who uses One Button Studio: the person who booked, their guests and anyone else attending a session.

1.Where the studio operates

One Button Studio is at CARISCA, KNUST School of Business, Kumasi, Ghana and operates within the KNUST environment. Everyone in the studio is also on University premises, so KNUST's own rules on conduct, security, safeguarding and the use of University facilities apply alongside this policy. KNUST students remain subject to the University's student rules while in the studio.

KNUST publishes its institutional policies on its University Policies page. Where a KNUST rule and this policy differ, the KNUST rule applies.

2.Conduct we expect

Everyone in the studio must:

  • behave respectfully towards staff, other users and members of the University community;
  • follow the reasonable instructions of studio staff;
  • respect KNUST property and studio equipment;
  • keep the studio clean and leave it as it was found;
  • follow safety instructions and the Health, Safety and Conduct policy;
  • avoid disruptive behaviour;
  • follow access and security requirements.

3.Conduct that is not allowed

The following are prohibited in the studio and in connection with any booking. The list is not exhaustive.

  • Harassment, including sexual harassment.
  • Threatening behaviour, intimidation or violence.
  • Bullying.
  • Discrimination and hate speech.
  • Theft, vandalism or deliberate damage to equipment.
  • Fraud, including using another person's identity or status to obtain a price.
  • Entering areas or using systems without authorisation.
  • Illegal activity of any kind.
  • Dangerous activity.

4.Harassment, misconduct and safeguarding

One Button Studio does not tolerate:

  • sexual harassment or sexual misconduct;
  • exploitation or abuse;
  • bullying;
  • discrimination;
  • threatening behaviour;
  • abuse of children or of adults who may be at risk.

Staff may stop a session immediately where any of these is suspected. No member of staff and no customer may set aside a safeguarding requirement. Where there is any doubt, the matter must be referred to the studio manager.

Where an incident involves a KNUST student, a member of KNUST staff or a visitor to the University, the studio may escalate it through the appropriate KNUST channel where that is required. KNUST's published policies include a Safe Guarding Policy and a Sexual Harassment Policy, which set out the University's own procedures.

Reporting a concern

  • Emergency contact: [PLACEHOLDER: Approved emergency contact]
  • Studio manager: [PLACEHOLDER: Studio manager contact]
  • KNUST safeguarding and reporting contact: [PLACEHOLDER: Official KNUST safeguarding and reporting contact]

If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first.

5.Studio equipment

This section covers all studio property, including cameras, microphones, lighting, tripods, teleprompters, furniture, backdrops, computers and audio equipment.

You must:

  • use equipment only for its intended purpose;
  • follow staff instructions on how to use it;
  • not modify, dismantle or reconfigure equipment without authorisation;
  • not install software on studio computers without authorisation;
  • not remove any equipment from the studio;
  • report damage or a fault immediately.

Booking the studio gives you the use of the space and equipment for your session. It does not transfer ownership of any studio, CARISCA or KNUST property.

6.Damage

We distinguish between four situations.

  • Normal wear and tear: deterioration from ordinary, careful use. You are not charged for this.
  • Accidental damage: damage that happens despite reasonable care. Tell staff straight away. We will assess what happened before deciding whether any contribution is appropriate.
  • Negligent damage: damage caused by a failure to take reasonable care or to follow instructions.
  • Intentional damage: damage caused deliberately.

Where studio property is damaged negligently or intentionally, the studio may seek reasonable compensation for repair or replacement, subject to applicable law and institutional procedures. Intentional damage may also be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Nothing in this section limits any responsibility the studio has under the law for its own negligence or unlawful conduct.

7.Personal belongings

You are responsible for your own belongings and equipment. The studio is not responsible for their loss or theft, except where the law requires otherwise or the loss was caused by the studio's own negligence.

8.Security and access

Because the studio is on University premises, you must follow:

  • KNUST access requirements and building access rules;
  • instructions from KNUST security staff;
  • identification and visitor requirements;
  • the studio's operating hours.

In addition:

  • the studio may ask for identification before giving access;
  • you must not enter restricted areas;
  • you must not bring unauthorised people into restricted University spaces;
  • the number of people in the studio must not exceed its stated capacity.

9.Prohibited items and activities

Unless expressly authorised in writing, the following are not allowed. The list includes, but is not limited to:

  • weapons;
  • illegal drugs;
  • smoking where it is prohibited;
  • dangerous substances;
  • activities that create an unreasonable fire risk;
  • activities that endanger people;
  • illegal commercial activity;
  • political or institutional representation that has not been authorised (see the Content and Recording Policy);
  • activities that breach KNUST rules;
  • activities that unreasonably disrupt the KNUST environment.

10.Noise and disruption

The studio is within an academic and business school environment. You must keep noise to a reasonable level. Recording activity must not unreasonably disrupt:

  • classes and lectures;
  • offices and meetings;
  • research activities;
  • other studio users;
  • KNUST operations.

Staff may pause or end a session that causes unacceptable disruption.

11.If this policy is breached

Depending on how serious the breach is, the studio may give a warning, pause or end the session, decline future bookings, suspend a membership, seek compensation for damage, and refer the matter to KNUST or to the appropriate authorities. Whether a refund is due is covered by the Refund Policy.

12.Raising a concern

To report a problem with equipment, safety or the conduct of any person, including a member of staff, speak to studio staff or use the contacts in the Terms and Conditions.
